Choreographer Spotlight (22′-23′): Emily!

Emily Boyle

1. How many years have you been in the company?

I’ve been in the company for eight year.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

I’ve been choreographing for 5 years.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My piece is about how important self love is, and how you can’t love anyone else before you love yourself.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

The process of developing a figment of imagination into reality will help me see my dreams come true.

Sawyer Houle

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my 4th year in the company.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

 This is my 2nd year choreographing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

The concept of my piece this year is when sometimes in a relationship a part of you wants to move on and another part wants you to stay. This can be hard on you and your mental health.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

It can give me the experience and determination to achieve the goals in my life.

Adelaide Brunelle

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my third year in the company.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

This is my first year choreographing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

The concept for my dance is to find your inner strength even when society rejects you.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

Developing a figment of imagination into reality will aid me in deciding what I would like to do as a career in the future.

Gretchen Kelly

1. How many years have you been in the company?

I’ve been in the company for 4 years.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

 This is my second year choregraphing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My piece is about the remembering the good moments of your life and how they need to be cherished. These moments stay with you and give you happiness and hope when things get harder. They are something that you can hold on to and bring you happiness when you need it. 

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

The process gives you a chance to grow and develop your ideas. It teaches you that sometimes you have to fail before you reach your ultimate goal.

Laura Park

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my second season with the company!

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

 This is my first year choreographing a piece for figments.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My concept for this piece is observing the contrast and similarities between the movement qualities of jellyfish and birds. 

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

The process of turning imagination into reality requires perseverance and hard work but it is the most rewarding thing when you see that dream become real.

Nyah Nevins

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my 8th year in the company!

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

This is my 5th year choreographing

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My concept is about try to find a new path in a new chapter of your life.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

This can aid me in the future because you watch your dream become a reality, all of the movement I have created in my dance were just a figment of my imagination until it became real when I taught it to my dancers. Watching your dance come to together from your imagination is just a wonderful feeling and makes you feel like your making an impact on the people that watch your dance and see your message throughout the dance.

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my 5th year in the company.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

This is my 3rd year choreographing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My piece this year demonstrates when people tell you to be like everyone else, but you love what you see in the mirror. Realizing that the only opinion that matters is your own.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

In the future, developing a figment of my imagination into a reality can benefit me with being more creative, which is an important part of my life. My imagination has grown because of Figments Youth Dance Ensemble, and I hope the same for everyone else in the company.

Haven Holmes

1. How many years have you been in the company?

This is my 1st year in the company.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

This is my 1st year choreographing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

My concept is no matter how broken or down you are there is always something there to bring you up “ beauty in the ashes”.

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

This will help me because if I ever feel stuck in a situation I can go back to my process of development a figment of imagination to help me proceed and get through that situation.

This is my 4th year in the company.

2. How many years have you been choreographing for Figments?

This is my 2nd year choreographing.

3. What is the concept of your dance this year?

The concept of my dance this year is coming back to yourself after neglecting yourself for a long period of time

4. How can the process of developing a figment of imagination into reality, aid you in the future? 

In the future, I can use the idea of developing a figment of my imagination by being creative with certain complications in my life, and learning about to navigate around then creatively by just one figment of thought.

I have been in the company for 3 years!

How many years have you been choreographing?

This is my first year choreographing.

What is your piece about this year?

This year my piece is about how people can experience waves of emotion.

How does your choreography connect to our theme? “Lost and Found”?

My piece relates to the theme “Lost and Found” because when you connect to someone, you feel found, because they listen to you and understand what your going though. My piece emphasizes the feeling of being lost and not connecting with others.
